Visual Vibrations_ Mars Language Post

by Leung Chan Elisa Michelle

‘Mars Language’ is a new language that collectively created by 90’s young people on the web in recent years. As this language is different from formal languages, therefore it is named ‘Mars Language’.

There are various type of ‘Mars Language’ such as emoticons and wrong words that originate from formal languages. ‘Mars Language’ is popular among young web users in Hong Kong now. We can find a large number of ‘Mars Language’ appears on forums, instant messagers and blogs.

‘Mars Language’ gives an alternative way for young people to communicate with others. However, the contrast between the way young people communicate and their parents is obvious because their parents are used to formal languages only. The generation gap is widening under this culture. ‘Mars Language Post’ is designed for the parents who have no idea of ‘Mars Language’. I wish it can allow parents to explore young people’s creativity and sense of humor.

Visual Vibrations_ Late Sleeper

by Lee Hoi Ying Angel

‘Late Sleeper’ is always unwilling to sleep early, especially the young generation who aged between 20 to 30 years old in Hong Kong. Although they need to work or go to school in early next morning, they always choose to use those few sleeping hours as their own private time to do what they like rather than go to bed. Among these years, this has became a common culture in Hong Kong. You can see that after mid-night, there are still many people on the street, and some shops are still open with bright lights in the main district. People routine of their daily life have extended, and they have postponed the time to go to bed.

It is because of the unique environment of Hong Kong’s culture, people sleep later and later, their routine had been changed, and late sleeping has become their habit. The aim of this project is to find out the behavior of people, and their thoughts during ‘Late Sleep’. Since most people have this habit and experience, so I am interested to find out the factors that attract young people to keep doing this.

Visual Vibrations_ Kidult

by Leung Wai Kin Pinky

“Kidult” is a new term to describe the phenomenon of some people in our society. It refers to those adults who are still having the interests and preferences of a kid. Kidult are influenced by Japanese cartoons and toys when they were children, but they still love these toys when they become adults. These Japanese cultures have become their collective memories.

Toys are important to “kidult” because different kinds of toys can satisfy their needs and desires. Toys can balance their pressure from work and daily life. Besides, toys can cure their psychological problems, and give them satisfaction in different ways. Therefore, toys are good medicine for kidult. This project is to explore how different toys can cure the psychological problems of adults and the implications behind these toys.

A fake brand is designed. This brand will be launched in a toy shop called “KIDULT”. The promotional slogan of this shop is “You are what you play” as kidult usually buy the toys which can reflect their psychological problems. This toy shop provides an alternative place for “kidult” to purchase toys as they can choose the toys according to their “symptoms”.

YOU ARE WHAT YOU PLAY”。
