‘Mars Language’ is a new language that collectively created by 90’s young people on the web in recent years. As this language is different from formal languages, therefore it is named ‘Mars Language’.
There are various type of ‘Mars Language’ such as emoticons and wrong words that originate from formal languages. ‘Mars Language’ is popular among young web users in Hong Kong now. We can find a large number of ‘Mars Language’ appears on forums, instant messagers and blogs.
‘Mars Language’ gives an alternative way for young people to communicate with others. However, the contrast between the way young people communicate and their parents is obvious because their parents are used to formal languages only. The generation gap is widening under this culture. ‘Mars Language Post’ is designed for the parents who have no idea of ‘Mars Language’. I wish it can allow parents to explore young people’s creativity and sense of humor.
