“Kidult” is a new term to describe the phenomenon of some people in our society. It refers to those adults who are still having the interests and preferences of a kid. Kidult are influenced by Japanese cartoons and toys when they were children, but they still love these toys when they become adults. These Japanese cultures have become their collective memories.
Toys are important to “kidult” because different kinds of toys can satisfy their needs and desires. Toys can balance their pressure from work and daily life. Besides, toys can cure their psychological problems, and give them satisfaction in different ways. Therefore, toys are good medicine for kidult. This project is to explore how different toys can cure the psychological problems of adults and the implications behind these toys.
A fake brand is designed. This brand will be launched in a toy shop called “KIDULT”. The promotional slogan of this shop is “You are what you play” as kidult usually buy the toys which can reflect their psychological problems. This toy shop provides an alternative place for “kidult” to purchase toys as they can choose the toys according to their “symptoms”.
“KIDULT”是一個新的形容詞,通常用來形容社會中一些仍然有孩童興趣和表現的成年人。
那些KIDULT們,在童年時代因為受到日本卡通和玩具的影響,到了成年時期仍熱愛日本卡通或「動漫」、模形等玩意。這種形式的日本文化已成為他們的集體童年回憶。對那堆KIDULT而言,玩具是十分重要。不同的玩具滿足他們不同的需要和慾望;他們利用玩具來平衡他們在工作和日常生活上的壓力。另外,玩具治療了他們心理上的問題,從不同方面得到滿足。所以玩具是KIDULT的最佳良藥。這個作品表現出不同的玩具如何涉及成年人的生活,和治療成年人的心理問題。
這個作品建立了一個虛構玩具店品牌“KIDULT”。其品牌的宣傳口號為”YOU ARE WHAT YOU PLAY”。“KIDULT”提供了一個另類世界,讓那些KIDULT去購買合適自己的玩具來治癒自己的心理問題。
